SII can supply 10m doses to govt in January: Adar Poonawalla
Mumbai: Serum Institute of India (SII) can supply 10 million doses of its Covid vaccine this month to the Indian government, said CEO Adar Poonawalla, with the subject expert committee of the country’s drug regulator having recommended its emergency licensure on Friday.
The company is ready to start rolling out supplies of its Covishield vaccine in a week's time, poonawalla said. SII is waiting for a official procurement contract for the vaccine from the Indian government with regard to pricing and distribution.
"The price as we had shared initial will be $3 or Rs220 for governments per dose and Rs1,000 per dose for the private market," poonawalla said in an interview to ET. This will depend on the government allowing private sales, he said.
The company said it has manufactured a total 100million doses but hasn't filled them into vials yet asit's awaiting a formal contract.
''We haven't signed any contract with the government yet, but in broad strokes we are planning to supply 300 million doses to the government and private market by july 2021,'' Poonawalla said. This assumes government contracts will be in place for official distribution and the private market will be opened up.
