Govt increases natural gas price by 62%, 1st hike in over 2 years

The government has increased the price of natural gas by 62%, the first increase in rates since April 2019. Rates paid for gas produced from fields given to ONGC and OIL will be $2.9 per million British thermal units for October-March. The hike could result in a 10-11% rise in CNG and piped cooking gas rates in few cities, sources said.

The government on Thursday hiked the price of natural gas — which is used to make fertilizers, produce electricity, and is turned into CNG for automobiles — by 62 percent, an official order said.
