Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Group chairman AM Naik has sought the return to pre-Covid norms for commercial eligibility in infrastructure project bids and inclusion of stringent quality parameters to ensure desired standards and defined milestones for long-gestation and complex government projects.
In an exclusive interview with ET, the 79-year-old Naik, a self-proclaimed lifer at the engineering behemoth, raised concerns that the current government norms for awarding projects on the basis of lowest bids (L1) do not factor in quality parameters, potentially proving costly for the nation.
