Lightning strike leads to discovery of new phosphorus material

Lightning strike in Florida has led to the discovery of a new phosphorus material, possibly a new mineral group. Geoscientist Matthew Pasek found that the material is transitional between the minerals found on Earth and in space. While minerals similar to the newly found material exist in meteorites and space, it has never been seen on Earth before, Pasek said.
