NASA tests inflatable heat-shield for spacecraft

NASA has completed testing of Bernard Kutter Low-Earth Orbit Flight Test of an Inflatable Decelerator (LOFTID), an inflatable heat-shield system for a spacecraft for its cooler re-entry into Earth's atmosphere. LOFTID is designed to slowly expand the aeroshell to its final shape before the re-entry, NASA said. The heat shield is set to launch with a polar-orbiting satellite by September
