VODAFONE IDEA MD.RAVINDER TAKKAR REJECTS MUKESH AMBANI’S CALLS FOR ‘2G’ FREE INDIA:

Vodafone Idea MD Ravinder Takkar rejected RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani call for a “2G-mukt” India, asserting that the legacy mobile technology would definitely stay as its an efficient and good service option for customers who don’t require smartphones in a hurry.

AS TAKKAR Said-

That 2G services need to stopped (in India) is a completely wrong message that’s going out in the market.

2G won’t see a shutdown anytime soon and would continue in India like in many International market’s as it remained a good,low-cost service option for a segment of customers.

About 15% of mobile subscribers in many international markets, even where 5G is about to be launched ,remain on 2G as its an efficient , low-cost service option.

Ambani had urged telecome minister Ravishankar Prasad to speed up policy measures to ensure a quick end of 2G in India.

If accepted by the government, the move could hit Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel who together have around 300million 2G users critical to their revenue streams.
